“Say the words and I’m yours.”
The curtains fluttered lightly and sunlight ran through them
and unfurled on the carpet like sunlight through ocean water. The warmth came
in waves and kissed every surface it could touch.
“You love too much,” he whispered.
“Perhaps.” His arms and body enclosed her. His chin on her worn
shoulder. Her head upon his strong chest. The breeze blew and the leaves
whispered in rhythm.
“This feels different now.” He released her and looked into
her eyes. She then remembered the time she read about Daisy and Gatsby, and she
finally understood it all. In that brief moment, she knew that there was no one
else. It was the truest truth that had ever existed. She was his. And he was
hers.
But she also knew that she was now bound forever. She did
not need words after all to follow him across the universe. No words to assure
her. No words to tell her that he wanted her to. It was an unspoken truth.
“It does, doesn't it?” A feeling overwhelmed her and tensed her insides like a earthquake waiting to happen. She couldn't stop it and she
didn't wish to. “I love you.” The breeze had stopped a while ago and the day
had proceeded on, unawares, and the rays brushed their skin lightly and warmly.
“You make it sound as if every other man and woman lied.” He
wasn't looking at her. He couldn't return the words. He couldn't return her
emotions. She knew she was cursed forever, but it didn't bother her as long as she knew that he loved her. Even if just a little.
